June 12, 2013

Life in General was a little challenging in the last couple of months. We've had vacation, worked on the kitchen and struggled through the loss of Dan's father, this shall continue I'm sure. I'll be catching up, hopefully soon. Lots happening, kids are around lots (yay!), cottage visit with our 6 kids, a wedding coming up, planning a trip with my mom and dad... life is good. Hope I still have some audience to update... see you soon, Dianne

Saturday at home

Well, we are moving right along.
Dan put on the cupboard handles today and tore down/replaced the glass cupboard.
I have to admit after all the blunders it's really starting to come together. He's done an amazing job. I guess I should stop complaining about his perfectionist ways!

When he was working I was shocked to see the bruise on his arm.
We are guessing it happened when he had his blood drawn for his hand/foot Gout (gosh, there has to be a prettier word for that!). Still no results but he did say the nurse made a mistake and had to puncture him again and that it hurt.
You think?

Last Week

Well, it's been an interesting week. The hand that feeds us grew and grew... Gout is not a very pretty word but neither is the pain that accompanies it. From there it went to the foot. Forever grateful for our pharmaceuticals... it would have taken a lot of limes to fix this problem!

Michaela spent the night with us last weekend. We spent most of our time in the hot tub, the kid is a fish. Her visit woke our normally quiet house up perfectly.

Apparently there are monsters in our house at night, we thank goodness for her little friend who stayed with her in the spare bedroom!

Our shopping trip got us a tea set (with water in the livingroom!) and spent some time painting the pig which didn't get put down the entire time she was here.  ah, life is good :)

More work in the kitchen and Marty is thrilled to lick the food scraps off the counter top. WHAT food scraps on the counter top?? I'm pretty sure i cleaned it when we put it back...

The kitchen is moving along, only one old cupboard remains, although it's being ripped out as I write this. The counter top people were impressed with Dan's handiwork, it measured perfectly level (no big surprise to me, that SHOULD happen when it takes 3 months to build a kitchen!) hee hee..

Marty is getting tired of all the upheavel in her life,
she isn't even sure where to tuck her dish anymore!

The new sink, I don't believe in washing, just buy new!

Going out for a break, quite happy to be riding in the truck.  ANYWHERE else but that crazy disorganized house!

A regular Sunday...

Well, another week has gone by and we haven't gotten much farther, athough it's promising! We no longer have a working sink in the kitchen (good think the bathroom isn't too far away!)  Our master carpenter (that's Dan:)  has made it possible for most of the construction to be able to continue to use the kitchen but we have reached a point whre that isn't possible. Although the dishwasher was only out of commission for a day, yes... we DO know what's important!

Poor Marty is really getting tired of the noise, not to mention when her master is acting less patient than normal, who knew the master carpenter would not want Marty licking out the drain (she knows I try to keep stuff clean!) and she also didn't clue in soon enough to know he wouldn't want her licking his face when he went down low enough... she knows now!  Her new favorite place? Under the desk...

So, the old sink and pop/potato cupboard are gone (no sentiment at this point!). We have discovered our floors are a little more uneven than we thought, at this point we've learned not to stress about that kind of stuff.  And we are thrilled to note that our piles of boxes are getting smaller, yay!!  Now to find a sink and order the counter top... Hopefully things will go quicker than they did for Crystal but even she survived it with two babies, I'm sure this part will be a breeze for us!

Below you will see that Dan has the new cupboards in place. We only have one more to pull off the wall and replace but I'm starting tot hink this is easy for Dan... his language isn't as colorful as it was in the beginning so maybe he's even getting bored?

We got smarter too...  we are actually going to have a hot dinner tonight!
See you next time.  dianne

We now have two people in our family that can make Hazel's famous buns,
Hazel herself, and now Tory. Yay Tory!

Coming soon...

Two subjects that got lost in our last blog... Ryan and Tory.
Coming soon to a blog near you!

Spring Cleaning in a major way!

Well, we've finally started the project we've been talking about for 3 years! That is very exciting but it quickly got difficult when we realized our walls aren't standard and neither are the angles! But leave it to Dan to figure all those numbers out and the next thing we knew we had two completely FULL vehicles full of boxes (some correct and some not!) in the dining room and living room... it seems we won't be having any family dinners any time soon!

So then the fun starts. Time to remove cupboard doors that have been swinging there for 30 years, longer if you count the family before us!   I'm surprised I didn't have some sentiment for the doors that my kids abused but when we started to realize how uneven and beaten up they were, I can only feel excitement!
All the doors are gone now, considering everything else has taken so long, this was surprisingly quick. A little daily frustration can go a long way when demoing your shelving that should NEVER be the entire width of the kitchen. An afterthought... I probably should not have put the heavy stuff in the middle! I'm no longer afraid that the cupboards won't stay up, if these ones did, we have no worries. Window frame went at this step, I wonder if we can save the window sill... yep, sentiment finally showed up!

Dan finally let me have the hammer, it was not as fun as I thought it would be but it was fun to be able to help. But we all know that I'm better at a camera which is why Dan now has the hammer... Marty was starting to feel a little left out.

I will not let her surprise me like that again, she almost snuck one in!

And the world carries on outside and of course, I took a camera break!

We had a few tense moments, this was a fraidy one...  when Dan realized that the doors didn't have holes behind them and what the heck is a replacement panel.. he ultimately figured stuff out as usual but it wasn't any fun getting there!
Poor Marty,  wishing she was anywhere else but here!

And at the end of the day we had one corner up and it's finally time to call it quits for tonight! and NO, the board won't stay there... it's Dan's way of keeping it even without measuring too close! PS. This blog in no way expresses the views of ALL members of the household, just the one who chooses to share :)  Feel free to ask Dan what his opinion is, it's bound to be quite different!

Signing off for now... Dianne
